The terms complementarianism and egalitarianism are used often in the discussion of women in church leadership. However, many people don't really know the history of these terms and what they really mean. You may be surprised to learn that complementarianism was only created 50-60 years ago! Join us on May 31 for an online discussion about the beginnings and theology of complementarianism as we discuss the rise and (pitfalls) of this doctrine.

Exploring the Feminine Images of God Online Chapter Chat

When we think of God we often imagine an old man with a long white beard. But, did you know the Bible also describes God as a loving mother? Yes, you read that right! In Isaiah 49:15 it says, “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!”

These references to God as a mother, a woman, a nurturing figure are not only refreshing but also empowering. They remind us that God’s love and care are not limited to a gender, and that both men and women can embody these qualities.

On April 26th at 7:00PM Katie Ding will lead an exploration of the feminine images of God in the Bible. These feminine images of God are often overlooked or dismissed in many Christian communities. And that’s why it's important for us to discuss them. These Scriptures provide a deeper understanding of God's nature and expand our view of gender roles and identity.

Register below and a link to join will be emailed to you on the day of the event.

Virtual Chapter Chat

Join us for a monthly Chapter Chat beginning March 22 at 7:00 PM (and every 4th Wednesday of the month) on zoom. Each month we will explore a different topic related to biblical gender equality. The call will include various presenters with an opportunity to ask questions, share perspectives, and dialogue about important issues related to gender equality, women’s leadership, mutuality, and human flourishing.

This first gathering will explore Genesis 1-3 and God’s vision for human flourishing. Some of the questions we will answer include the following:

·      The Bible says Eve is Adam’s helper. Does that mean women are created to help men succeed?

·      Since Adam was created first, does that mean he is in charge?

·      Does God tell Eve that Adam must now rule over her because she sinned?

·      If women and men are created in God’s image, does that mean we are the same?

Be The Bridge Group Discussion

**Sorry this event is full and registration is now close.

Join us for a book discussion on Wednesdays from July 15th to August 19th from 8-9 PM on Zoom. Space is limited/

Recent events in our country have exposed harsh realities and opened old wounds. Many are hesitant to step into the gap, fearful of saying or doing the wrong thing. But change begins with an honest conversation among Christians willing to create a safe space to dialogue openly and honestly.

Mary Johnson and Jeannette Cochran are two pastors and friends who have journeyed together in life and ministry. They have had hard conversations, shared their different experiences, and have learned from one another. They have laughed together and cried together. They have not always agreed, but they have always respected each other’s opinion and valued one another as worthy of love and honor.

It’s in that spirit that Mary and Jeannette want to create a safe space for diverse women to dialogue openly and honestly about race. The book, Be the Bridge: Pursuing God’s Heart for Racial Reconciliation will guide us as we engage in dialogue to increase understanding, growth, and unity. We invite women of all ages, all ethnicities, and all backgrounds to join us for these crucial conversations. Through reading, discussion, and prayer, together, we can gain a broader vision of what it means to become bridge builders- committed to pursuing justice and radical unity in light of the gospel.

Online Book Discussion: The Real Mary

Often, the picture of Mary handed to us is the image of a woman we can’t relate to and we don’t fully understand. She may be the most overlooked and misunderstood woman in the gospels and yet her story is enormously important. “The Real Mary” illuminates the life of an ordinary woman with an extraordinary vocation and how she learned to follow the Messiah in her everyday struggles. In this sense, Mary represents each of us in our call to follow Jesus.

Read the book and then join us online Tuesdays at 7:30 PM (EST), December 3rd, 10th, and 17th for a lively discussion to discover The Real Mary.

December 3, 7:30 | Chapters 1-6 discussion

December 10, 7:30 | Chapters 7-10 discussion

December 17, 7:30 | Chapters 11-14 discussion

Please register below to receive a link to the discussion.

Sister to Sister Sewing Bee

It’s not unusual for a girl in Uganda to miss school during her period because she lacks sanitary products. This can equal as much as 20% of the school year. Some girls drop out of school completely when they start menstruating. You can help change this.

Volunteer to help make reusable menstrual pads so that girls are always supplied with sanitary products. Working in conjunction with CBE’s African partners, these pads will be given to girls in need at a school in Kampala and Jinja, and distributed to women in the community.

In addition to distributing the completed menstrual pad kits, a small team is traveling to Uganda in early September to train 4 local leaders in Kampala to make more kits for their community.

Equipping women and girls with sanitary products, restores their dignity and removes obstacles to education and empowerment.

Join us for a sewing bee to help make the pads. Can’t sew? No problem. There’s plenty of work to do that does not include sewing so show up and give us a hand. If you have a machine and can bring, that’s great too.

You can also make a monetary donation to help us purchase materials, empowerment kits, and 2 sewing machines for the women we will train in Uganda.

CBE’s ministry partners in Uganda are breaking down barriers that keep girls from learning and achieving their dreams. Won’t you join us in helping them?

ChurchTogether Summit

ChurchTogether Summit

The world has an old, painful story about men and women. This year the #metoo moment brought to light some of the most disturbing parts of the story and the #churchtoo moment forced us to confront how much the brokenness of the world has entered the Church. This broken story is deeply painful on a personal and communal level.

It’s easy to believe we’ll never overcome the brokenness.

But this is not how God sees our story.

It’s time to name and lament how the world’s story has limited the Church’s imagination.

And it’s also time to tell a better story. God is weaving a restoration project in us as individuals and as a body. It will give us a better story to tell the world.

On November 10 we’re gathering folks who both know the brokenness and have better stories to tell. Won’t you join us to hear their stories and share your own?

Register below to join us on November 10th for only $20, including lunch!

Dance for our Sisters Zumbathon

Come have a blast with us at this special event where you can get a great Zumba workout, have fun, AND help end gender-based violence all at once!

But, how does spending my Saturday doing Zumba with my friends help women in Africa???

We are proud to donate the proceeds to CBE International for their initiative in collaborating with churches & NGO leaders in Africa who have a track record of challenging gender-based violence, child marriage, female genital mutilation, and other injustices suffered by women. Misunderstanding of scripture fuels gender-based violence, so CBE is helping to tell the story of the truth in God's word of equality.

CBE is expanding outreach alongside pastors in Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and beyond. In fact, CBE will invest over $48,000 and countless staff hours in these vital programs. But they need our help today. Your participation or donation will support this transformative work with a generous contribution toward books, scholarships, and general ministry needs.

More information about CBE International's initiative is here.

Registration cost for this event is $15.  Please download and review this liability waiver. You will need to submit this in order to participate.

Biblical Equality 101

A bible study of God's design, purpose, and vision for men and women. We will address various Christian views on gender equality and delve deep into the Biblical context and original languages to develop a biblically informed theology of male and female. This is a hot topic in our culture vitally important to our faith because our beliefs about men and women impact how we live in community with one another in the home, church, and world. This six-session study is the second and fourth Thursday beginning Sept 14 at 7 PM. (No meeting 11/23, Thanksgiving. Session will be held 11/30 instead)
